Box Office Update: Joker Passes Aladdin, Frozen 2 Hits $300 Million, Venom 2 to Consider R-Rated Status

Published

on

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a box office update, and it has been a busy week in the world of cinema (as always!). Firstly, Joker has enjoyed plenty of success, and this is news we’ve brought to you in the past. Now, however, it has earned around $331 million in North America alone. At the beginning of the week, the domestic/international split was at 31.5/68.5 which means that the movie has earned over $1 billion and it has crept above Aladdin in the box office revenue rankings.

At the moment, this means Joker will end the year as the sixth most successful movie. Despite only a few weeks remaining, this is still subject to change as Frozen 2 continues to grow and we await the launch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. If the two movies enjoy the success expected, Joker will still go down as the eight-largest film of 2019 and, considering all the concerns regarding the return of the infamous character, a huge success.

Frozen 2 Continues to Excel

While on the note of Frozen 2, it has now passed $300 million domestically and some are predicting a further $40 million this weekend alone as the weekends before Christmas get fewer. Internationally, the movie has been a huge hit (to nobody’s surprise) and has now amounted revenues of over $750 million. With this in mind, it seems inevitable that Frozen 2 will join the $1 billion club; a club which has seen six new Disney members in 2019 alone. The other five are;

  • Toy Story 4
  • The Lion King
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Captain Marvel
  • Aladdin

In truth, Disney has been relentless in the world of cinema this year. Across the first three quarters of 2019, 40% of ALL box office revenues went to Disney films. If we count 2018 and 2019 together, the company is expected to pass $21 billion. Regardless of what they do, movie-goers seem to be loving the company right now.

R-Rated Status for Venom 2?

Elsewhere, the first instalment of the Venom series was largely a success. However, there were calls from some fans to take the character to the next level. Thanks to the success of Joker, it seems we could be about to get our wishes. According to some reports, Tom Hardy actually called for more gruesome action so that it would stay true to the original comic books. Now, Matt Tolmach, producer of Venom, has said that the sequel will consider an R rating.

Although he was happy with how the film went, he said it’s always worth considering now that this genre works. While talking to CinemaBlend, Tolmach said, ‘I think what Joker does is it tells you that you can succeed…Deadpool sort of wrestled that to the turf, and then Logan, but for a long time, that was considered totally forbidden.’ R-rated movies are now being accepted, will Venom 2 follow the trend?

When it comes to topic related to the Armed forces, Kent can allow a pile of words flow. Anderson was born in the year, 1945, and spent his childhood in North Carolina. When he got to nineteen years, he became a member of the Merchant navy, for a period of two years, as an Ordinary seaman.

‘The Super Mario Bros Movie’ Smashes Global Box Office Record For An Animated Film

The Super Mario Bros Movie

The iconic “wahoo” must be ringing in everyone’s ears at Universal Pictures right about now! The Super Mario Bros Movie is lighting all theatre screens on fire with its phenomenal performance. Chris Pratt plays the unlikely superhero for Princess Peach’s Mushroom Kingdom. Peach herself is our favorite Chess grandmaster from Queen’s Gambit, Anya Taylor Joy.

Thanks to Easter, a long weekend meant more time for everyone to hang out at the movies. The Super Mario Bros Movie just happens to be the perfect film to watch with your family and before you know it, the film already has $377 million in its collection!

The Super Mario Bros Movie Box Office

The film initially opened up for previews on the last Tuesdays and officially dropped in America the very next day. Over the course of five days, it had made about $206 million domestically. The weekend box office was going to be a huge deal for Universal. This is because the film based on the Mario games made about $173 million worldwide by the time Easter was over.

Their success is more than what it may seem. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has previously held the record of best box office opening for a video game movie with about $71 million. The bros review poured in and boosted the film to hundreds of millions. It left even Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania behind. The Marvel film had accumulated about $249 million globally in its opening weekend.

And that’s not the only record. The film also surpassed Frozen II to become the highest-earning film over the weekend box office. Frozen II held the record at $358 million.

The Super Mario Bros Movie Talented Artists Work Together

Pratt was originally trolled and ridiculed on social media. He doesn’t even have a single Italian hair on his body, and so, the verdict was released. Some said he wouldn’t make a great Mario. Even Anya Taylor Joy was doubted for her role as Princess Peach. But things have come around the rainbow in the cloud. Both of them have played their roles wonderfully. Enough to make the film such a great hit.

One voice that was never doubted though was that of Jack Black. One of the most adored actors in Hollywood, Black is the voice behind the evil Bowser. He played the character with a burning passion, and it clearly shows. The film also plentifully references things like cat Mario and toad Mario making it as wholesome as possible.

The Super Mario Movie release date is April 5. It’s already out in about 70 countries worldwide. If you haven’t watched the film, do yourself the biggest favor and go to the cinema right now!

‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ Destroys ‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ At The Box Office

‘John Wick Chapter 4’ Destroys ‘Shazam Fury of the Gods’ At The Box Office

Shazam: Fury of the Gods has found itself a ton of trouble from production to sales. Recently, events regarding Dwayne Johnson and his controlling nature have come to light. It turned out that due to the actor’s demands and pressure, a post-credit scene had to be canceled and re-written differently.

An executive from DC studios also accused Johnson of being bossy and trying to push everyone around in order to make Black Adam look like the good guy. On the other hand, critics panned the movie endlessly, and it ended up making very less in its opening week. No, with the release of Chad Stahelski’s John Wick: Chapter 4, the Shazam film may just be completely out of the picture. Here’s more.

Wick Vs. Shazam

If both the characters were real, let’s face it, a magical superhero would beat the gun-toting master assassin in no time. However, when it comes to box-office returns, Wick has hailed supreme. Shazam: Fury of the Gods is perhaps one of the worst-rated films in DC history, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of a mere 51%, which keeps fluctuating. On the other hand, John Wick: Chapter 4 has a score of 95%.

Baba Yaga is back in a way some fans expected. John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum had an opening box-office record of about $56.8 million. The fourth installment of the hit franchise has soared to the sky, topping its own record with a massive $74.5 million opening. Shazam: Fury of the Gods, on the flip side, only made somewhere around $37.5 million in its opening week and now has fallen down to an unimpressive $9.7 million in its second week.

“I wasn’t expecting a repeat of the first movie critically, but I was still a little surprised because I think it’s a good film. Oh well,” tweeted Shazam 2 director David F. Sandberg after the movie was basically crucified by critics. The film has managed to make around $102.4 million on a global scale, with a weekly tally of $56.1 million.

Lots of controversies followed Shazam after accusations against Dwayne Johnson surfaced. Actor Zachary Levi was sucked into the storm of accusations after he confirmed that they were being “thwarted” by outside forces. The actor had to go live on his social media handles and explain his point of view.

“I got flack about it because people were saying, ‘Oh, What are you doing? You’re trying to blame this guy because your movie’s not doing well. Like you’re trying to blame us,’” he said. “Listen, I haven’t blamed anybody. There’s not one single person that I have blamed for anything about the way that our movie has performed.”

On the other hand, a relatively clean production of John Wick: Chapter 4 led to great success. The film managed to open up as number 1 in every country where it was released. It may be due to the brilliant star cast of the film, which features the usual ensemble of Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick, along with new members such as Bill Skarsgard, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Rina Sawayama.

Director Chad Stahelski has mentioned how he may not make another John Wick film. This may be his last outing as he has some other projects, and it seems like they’ve made enough films for the assassin. While fans will never get enough of John’s classy techniques and sharp dialogues (and blades), the director may be done with the franchise. However, he has mentioned that he may be open to making one more film if actor Keanu Reeves and Stahelski himself feel like they’ve found the right story.

This means Creed III made 73% more than Creed and about 32% more than Creed II. The film is also making the most money as a sports title in the industry.
