Jonas Brothers Open Up About Their Split Back In 2013

The famous brothers started out as a boy band in 2005. They found their fame and so much love from the world through none other than Disney. They found their fame and then wrote the songs that went on to bring them even more fortune. Since then, the brothers, Joe, Kevin, and Nick have achieved a multitude of things, including starring in Disney movies Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Further, in their music career, the brothers would go on to achieve multiple Teen Choice Awards for categories such as Choice Music: Love Song, Choice Single, and Choice Summer Song, among many others. They also won the Billboard Music Award for Top Radio Song in 2020 for their 2019 song Sucker.

But back in 2013, the brothers found themselves in troubled waters. That’s when they decided to split up for some time. In a recent interview with IMPACT x Nightline, the brothers opened up their hearts about the split and what it meant for them.

The Brothers’ Revelations

The brothers had constant disagreements about various issues. Most important, though, was how Nick Jonas wanted to focus on other things at the time. Back in 2016, Joe Jonas spoke about it in an AMA session on Reddit:

“When it happened, we were focusing on going on another tour and we had plans to hit the road and do what we had been doing for a while. Nick brought it to the table that he wanted to focus on different things, like acting and doing music on his own. At first, it was really shocking to me because it was kind of all I had known was the Jonas Brothers, forever.

Since then, Nick has become a part of many different projects. He acted in films like Careful What You Wish For and Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle. He also released three different albums. Meanwhile, Joe ended up becoming part of the musical group DNCE. Now, speaking about the split, Joe talks about how the breaking up was essential for them at the time:

“We needed it creatively,” he said. “We needed it emotionally … probably therapy.”

It was a rough time for the musicians as brothers, though. They mentioned how the three would communicate only through their father, Paul Jonas Sr. The rift between them was not easy to get over, especially when everything happened so quickly and so unexpectedly. But everyone’s choices had to be respected whether or not the others liked it.

“We didn’t want the band to end when it did,” said Kevin, “but we all really needed that time. The Band-Aid had needed to be ripped off.”

The truth was, the band was all they had ever known. Leaving it was obviously a terrifying thought. At the time, Joe felt pretty harshly towards the decision, as he mentioned in his AMA:

“I was like, ‘I’ve been putting so much time and effort into this for so long and now I just have to stop and figure out what’s next.’”

Jonas Brothers’ Current State

Now that time has passed, the brothers understand that the split was necessary one way or another. They also understand how their father only wanted what was best for all three of them, like any other parent. The brothers eventually came back together in 2019 and went on to create the song Sucker mentioned earlier. They have achieved much and come a long way to the point that they have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But perhaps, the greatest achievement is that they’re all fathers to beautiful children now.
