Murder Mystery 2 Get Netflix’s Second Biggest Weekend Opening For A Comedy Movie

Who thought Rachel from FRIENDS would make such an iconic duo with the ‘Sandman’ Adam Sandler himself? Murder Mystery 2 is now available on Netflix, and it’s made tidal waves on the platform. The very first film was released in 2019, with Sandler playing Nick Spitz and Aniston as Audrey Spitz.

The two get caught up in a, you guessed it, murder mystery while trying to reinvigorate the spark in their marriage. The sequel of the film sees them opening their own detective agency since they were so good at solving the crime last time.

Murder Mystery 2 Has Second Biggest Opening Weekend

Even with low ratings from critics, Murder Mystery 2 has managed to amass about 42 million views. A huge number that’s almost double the opening weekend viewership of Murder Mystery. It is one of the few comedy mystery movies on Netflix, and somehow, it just works so well! The secret is undoubtedly in the chemistry between Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. The two artists are best friends inside and outside of the film.

“I very much love to take care of him,” Aniston talked about working with Sandler. “He’s so concerned with taking care of everybody else, which he really does. And he doesn’t take care of himself.”

It’s always a warm hug to the heart when you see two best friends working on films together. Unfortunately, critics may not have been as loving of the film as fans. While the Google users score for the film is 84% right now, it only sports a meager 5.7/10 on IMDb. Rotten Tomatoes, which is infamous for giving out rotten ratings, has done it once again as well. The RT rating for Murder Mystery 2 is 45%.

However, Netflix audiences are soaking the film in. Between 27th March and 2nd April, the film had secured 64.42 million hours watched. Also, it appeared in the Top 10 lists of over 90 countries at once. The numbers once again speak for themselves. The prequel of the film only had about 24.7 million hours watched in a similar time window.

TV Shows Viewership

Other than Murder Mystery 2, shows like Love is Blind and The Night Agent also had big moments. The Night Agent still dominates the list as the number 1 most-viewed show over the last two weeks. It has amassed over 47 million views thanks to its consistent fanbase. Moreover, it has gained over 385 million hours viewed.

Love is Blind, on the other hand, manages to stay in the top 10 list with its fourth season. It also has around 47 million views keeping the audience entertained. Shadow and Bone season 2 was dethroned by The Night Agent. As a result, the former show fell to the third rank in the viewership list easily. In its third week, the show received about 27 million hours of viewership.

Finally, going in hard at number 7 was Chris Rock’s comedy special Selective Outrage. The show became increasingly famous because Rock finally opened up about the whole Will Smith debacle. And the man also made a lot of money out of it. Will Smith was reportedly “offended” by Rock’s rants, but it doesn’t look like the comedian cares anymore.
